I unistalled a few programs and now all heck has broken loose on my puter. My hard drives are in ms-dos compatability mode and my cd drives have dissappeared from "my computer" and device manager. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Check for anything untoward in your autoexec.bat/config.sys files... post em up here if you like, provided they're not too huge of course :-) Michael <no _spam@not.today.au> wrote in message news:39f4e60e@pink.one.net.au... > I unistalled a few programs and now all heck has broken loose on my puter. > > My hard drives are in ms-dos compatability mode and my cd drives have > dissappeared from "my computer" and device manager.

Try going to control panel and deleting the devices from the Device manager under System. Then use Add hardware to put them back. Look in Device Manager for those yellow exclamations and for ticks in boxes on the way. Put the drivers back with Add new hardware Michael <no _spam@not.today.au> wrote in message news:39f4e60e@pink.one.net.au... > I unistalled a few programs and now all heck has broken loose on my puter. > > My hard drives are in ms-dos compatability mode and my cd drives have > dissappeared from "my computer" and device manager. > > Any ideas on how to fix this problem? > > Michael > > System: > Win98se > Primary master Seagate 20.5 G > primary slave Ricoh 31x12x10 > Secondary master Quantum 2.5 G > secondary slave Sony 24x > Celeron 450 > BX m/b > 128 Mb RAM > > >

Good trick. > Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Probably best to try installing Win98SE over the current installation. You shouldnt lose anything doing that but it would be best to backup anything that you will slash your wrists if you lose first. > System: > Win98se > Primary master Seagate 20.5 G > primary slave Ricoh 31x12x10 > Secondary master Quantum 2.5 G > secondary slave Sony 24x > Celeron 450 > BX m/b > 128 Mb RAM
