Presumably win 9x OS? is this a PCMCIA modem? Check the PCMCIA drivers are not conflicting with the modem driver or with anything else, usually an IRQ conflict. Plug and pray is well capable of not resolving this conflict so try specifying the IRQ's then switch back to P&P. Peter, It seems that you might have to reinstall the modem, first of all remove the com ports except com1 then re-boot and install modem that should clear the prob "peterwbrown" <peterwbrown@ntlworld.com> wrote in message news:5B256.37986$Yy.871372@news2-win.server.ntlworld.com... > Advent 7361 with PCTel HSP56Micromodem installed on COM3/ Interrupt 4/ > Address 3E8 > > From Modem properties More info I get the message "Couldn't Open port" > > All suggestions gratefully received, please send thoughts direct > > > Many Thanks > > Peter Brown > > > --- > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.225 / Virus Database: 107 - Release Date: 22/12/00 > >
