An EASY way to edit CD tracks in CoolEdit 2000?

I must be totally dumb, but I can't seem to find an easy way to just grab a
track from a CD, edit and save it in Cool Edit 2000. I end up with 45Mb
files that play back silent, and files with no size at all. The other thing
is, when I use "Open" to grab one track, it actually loads all tracks. What
the hell am I doing wrong??

Also, I used Cool Edit years ago, and you could easily mark or select what
part you wanted (and discard the rest). How do you do this now?

Also, should i be saving at CD quality, or am I supposed to go higher (ie:
what "quality" are tracks on audio CDs?).

My whole aim is to be able to grab songs with intros or endings that piss me
off, chop off the offending bits, and make compilation CDs with them - all
without losing quality.

Help with any or all of these issues would be greatly welcomed... and thanks
in advance!

What OS are you using? I have the same problems since installing XP.
Everything was fine before that. Now I have to amplify the track about
300%. The track was recorded. I just couldn't hear it.

I'm using ME... and other people elsewhere have noted the same thing as you,
that the files are actually turned down in volume, in effect.

Will have to look into this. Thanks.
