OK, when i upgraded to ME and got the "_RESTORE" folder, i figured it was for System Restore. My question is: Where the hell is it? When does it actually come into play, and by what means? Just curious. Well I'm only new to ME myself, but if go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore you can save the current software setup, and return to this configuration at a later time. How it does it I don't know. I have saved several restore points, but have not tried to "go back" to one yet. System restore is a new utility available in ME and XP. The program monitors and records changes made to the core system and registry and allows you to "roll back" or undo a change that caused instability in your system. It performs a restore point periodically. Restore points are created under the following conditions: a.. Automatic System CheckPoints are created for every 10 hours of computer up time but only after the computer has been idle for 2 minutes. If this criterion is not met, then a System CheckPoint will be created once every 24 hours after the system has been idle for 2 minutes. b.. Restore points are created by Installer packages that use the new Microsoft Software Installer (MSI) technology. c.. Restore points are created by Installer packages that use InstallShield 6.1 Pro and later. d.. Restore points are created when AutoUpdate (AU) installs an update package. e.. Restore points are created when you use System Restore to roll your system back to a different Restore Point. However, if this is done in Safe Mode, a Restore Point will not be created. f.. Restore points are created manually by using the System Restore interface. You can either perform a manual restore point or let the system do it for you. I have used this utility once before on XP when I could not access both my burner and DVD drives (yet they were being picked up by the BIOS). I got these back after using the system restore utility.
