second hard drive

I have installed a second hard drive but cannot connect it because
a) there is no available power connector. The only spare connector is about
1/2 the width of the one that plugs into the drive. Is it possible to buy an
adapter for this connector so it can be plugged into the hard drive?
b)the data cable connector will not reach the second hard drive in its bay
under the CD Drive. Is it possible to buy a new short cable to run off the
data cable or should I buy brackets and relocate the second hard drive?
Please advise.
Thanks

...There are "Y" power splitter cables available for a dollar or so; you
ubplug connector from hard drive or floppy (assuming size is same),
connect "center" part of Y to connector you removed, and now you have 2
connectors, one for the HD that you disconnected, and the second for
extra/added drive. These "Y" splitters come in various lengths.

...If you have only one IDE controller, you then have your present HD as
Master and the CD as Slave and cannot connect a second hard drive unless
you add a secondary IDE controller board. The typical IDE controller
cable, wether for one drive or two, is about 20 inches long, and there
is no way to extend them, and one should never attempt to extend the
length! The signal path length cannot be too long for timing reasons,
and to preserve signal waveform integrity.

Thats going too far. There are some longer than the typical, and they work fine.

Yes, but you havent actually established that those
a bit longer than the typical suffer from that problem.

normally 18 inches, some slightly longer ones are available
usually you wouldn't want to go beyond that for standards reasons
and if you do the configuration needs to be tested

_most_ hardware can run at double that with no problems, but some
begin to have problems with longer cables, cable quality has a lot to
do with it

...confirmed with a few Tbytes of disk to disk file transfers
swap files etc with no glitches

and replying to original poster:

there are extension cables , not hens teeth but close, I have seen
exactly _one_, and it worked fine

or make your own header with the cable orientation the reverse of the
normal cable

or get some idc connectors and roll you own cable to the required
length
