Who wouldn't be pissed off after all this: <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXNCLbsBIfM&eurl=> It is a 10-minute-long MSNBC investigative report examining Condoleeza Rice's claim that the incoming Bush administration did not receive any plan or details from Clinton regarding Al Quaeda and Osama bin Laden. Its sources are: declassified intelligence reports, the 9/11 Commission Report, and reports from people who were there at the time. Warning: don't bother watching this if you are determined to ignore the unprincipled depths Condi must plumb to serve President Bush. For her to lie to us the way she did just days ago is nothing less than... well, whorish. The Bush administration got urgent top secret reports about Al Quaeda and OBL on January 25th, 2001-- five days after taking the Oath of Office. Bush's response? He downgraded counter-terrorism from a Cabinet-level policy concern, handing it over to deputy secretaries. This means that briefs on counter-terrorism and strategies to defeat such organisms as Al Quaeda never reached the Executive Office, delayed by months and sometimes permanently, in favor of such issues as "missile defense shields", tax reduction and other such expensive purely political strategies. (You gotta hand it to Bush, though: he sure likes to spend money that isn't his.) Bush continued on in this vein, even when in February, 2001, he found out definitively that the Cole had been attacked by Al Quaeda. By then though, when he wasn't on vacation, he was deep into his plan for convincing the nation to invade Iraq. Counter-terrorism grew ever more obscure as a national policy concern, right up to 9/11. I don't know why this stuff still surprises me. I've hated Bush and his cohorts for a long time for what they've done to the nation. You would think I would be too jaded to be surprised anymore. Yet somehow, I still can't believe any President could be this shamefully bad and continue in office.
