Hope to receive some good advice and suggestions from this newsgroup. About a year ago I bought a new car. By the time it is all over with it cost about $36,000. Though I'm accustomed to very fine audio in my car (last car stereo was $5000) I was convinced to accept the factory (or dealer?) supplied stereo. Within the first three days I learned that one of the 'features' of the tape player is its ability to detect a blank spot on the tape that is more than something like 5 or 10 seconds and then fast forward to the next song. I can imagine this feature is beneficial to someone listening to a number of tracks of music; when a blank spot at the end of a side is detected the machine fast forwards to the beginning of the next song on the next side. Because this feature can not be turned off I discovered what I think is a major flaw, especially since the tape player does not provide me with I expected. I mostly listen to classical music and whenever the music reaches a soft violin passage the machine always interprets this as the end of the track and fast forwards to the next louder section of music. In other word the tape player is not able to play classical music! I told the dealer within a week and was advised to bring it up at my first service. At the first and second service I was told that they had heard of it before from two or three other customers but they could not think of a solution. I asked if they could take out some electronic part inside to fix it and they said no. In the end they agreed to look into it. Just by fluke (or maybe some other defect?) a tape jammed inside the machine. They agreed to exchange it and did it in about five minutes (it plugs in or something). The next machine had the same problem as above though so I back paying probably over $1000 when all the taxes, etc., are included, and have a radio that won't play what I want. They said they would give me the model from the new model of the same car and I waited 6 months. When they put it in the color was orange with purple lights. Well it seems to work but I can't use it to test it and don't want it at all because my other dash lights are green. It looks ridiculous in my car. There's more but I have about a week left in my warranty and would really like my money back for the radio portion and go somewhere else and by an after market unit. If it is not going to match it might as well be something that doesn't make my passengers laugh and devalue the car by its weird appearance. Please help me, even if it seems like a crazy idea. Should I take them to court? Should I write the newspaper? The company? Thanks.
