There was no structural damamge. Everything else was on either a UPS or surge protector. The only reason the modem wasn't protected was because I am such a lazy bastard. All I had to do was go under the desk and reroute the phone lines through the UPS. Sheesh. The price of procrastination. We've got like, six lightning rods on the roof. It is the second time in three months we've been struck. Both times, the current entered the house through the phone lines, not the electrical lines. The circuit breaker never tripped. The first time, the lightning destroyed our cordless phone base station. I replaced it with another, more modern phone and this time, bought a UPS-suppressor for the circuit. That protected the phone during this last strike, but the modem remained completely exposed <ahem>. It got so fried, the phone line actually welded itself into the jack. I heard about that kind of stuff happening, but this is the first time I experienced first hand. I have to return the damaged modem to my provider. I think I'll just leave the phone cord attached :-)
