> It also increases your credit utilization which can affect your FICO (and > not in a positive way.) > Right on! This is the part that most people don't get. It doesn't matter if you pay your account off every month, and are never late. If a significant part of your disposable income runs through your credit card(s), it has a very negative effect on your FICO. And the more cards you have, even if you don't use them, the worse it is. To say nothing of the fact that all those transaction fees get rolled into the prices charged by the merchants who have to process the transactions. That 15 or 20 cents you got back from your credit card company on the last cup of Starbucks you put on your card probably added at least that much and maybe more to the price you paid. If you think it doesn't matter, the next time you need a loan for a major purchase (and you will, it's only a question of when), ask your lender how much lower the rate they're offering you would be if your FICO was 10 or 20 points higher. There's no free lunch. Regards, Sarge
