My computer came with a cheap mouse, and it wore out in a year (cleaning it didn't help, a part had worn). I then bought a Microsoft Mouse, and have been happy with it. I recommend a Microsoft or Logitech mouse in the $40-$60 range. Both come with good software (Intellipoint or MouseWare 7.0, respectively) and have good reputations for durability. Mouse "resolution" is not very important unless you are a graphic designer with a big monitor, in which case you probably would use a trackball instead of a mouse anyway.
