Can somebody help me? I'm looking for some information regarding
extinguishing powder. I have to give a presentation on these agents.
I'm looking for information on powder for class D fires. I would like to
have the names of these powders and their chemical structure.
For example.
For class B and C we have NaHCO or K SO
3 2 4
I hope that someone can help me. Please reply to my email address
maistro@planet.nl
Much obliged,
Greetings and stay safe.

The two most widely used chemicals used in D extinguishers are Sodium Chloride and Copper depending on the metal it's used for. Often referred to simply as Salt or Copper Extinguishers. Take a look at one of the major extinguishers manufacturers web sites. There you should be able to find MSDS sheets that may give you a better break down of the chemical mixture. I believe the copper agents are almost purely copper powder while the salt extinguishers have a small 5-10% mixture of silicates. Hello Erwin Meester, There are several ways to supress a metal fire. The only way to do so is to cool it down or the prevent oxygen to get to the metal. The extinguishing methods include : dry sand, aluinaarde, cement, graphite, special extinguising powder. There are too kinds of powder, one for all kinds of fire (A,B,C and D) and one only for B and C. They are all metalsalts with waterresisting coating. I hope this information helps you.
