there are still a few third world wannabe A-bombers who have dreams of
building lots of civilian nuclear reactors to mask their nuclear weapons
production facilities, reprocessing plants are dual use. Indonesia seems to
have abandoned its plans to enter the nuclear club, lack of international
investors, now with the break up of Indonesia looking more and more likely
it seems to have been in hindsight a very good decision to shelve the plans
for a dozen or so largish power reactors.
but in the first/developed world there is little to no interest in the
technology, even France is indicating that it is going to scale back its
commitment to nuclear energy, in favor of the more economic Renewables no
doubt. the breeder program is even under threat, remember that any large
scale expansion of nuclear energy generation would require the introduction
of breeder technology on a large scale as ore based fuels are limited.
breeder technology is more dirty and risky then conventional non breeder
reactors, and still experimental, and it seems that most nations that have
embarked on developing breeder reactors have not continued on the program,
or have built and then canceled the things.

didn't America once have a breeder reactor research program?
and has Japan decided what its going to do with its leaky unit?
