_Tanja_Reichert_
First the bad news. Tanja Reichert (Karen Petruski from Relic
Hunter) has informed Toronto Trek that due to a change in her
filming scheduling she will no longer be able to join us at this
years Toronto Trek. She sends her regrets.

_Anthony_Daniels_ (Source: www.anthonydaniels.com)
After initial attempts at law and hotel industry, Mr. Daniels found
real satisfaction as a member of an amateur dramatic society.
Eventually one of his teachers suggested that he should do what he
really seemed to want - to be an actor. So one year later he took
a small bequest and turned it into his ticket to acting school for
the next three years. There, Daniels was lucky to have particularly
good teachers in the mime and radio departments, two fields of art
that would stand him in good stead in the following years.
After joining the National Theatre of Great Britain at The Young
Vic, he toured abroad with them as well as acting in their London
home in many popular productions. It was whilst a member of that
company, playing in Stoppard's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead,
that he got the call to meet George Lucas about a science fiction
movie being filmed in England.
Lucas was interested in Daniels' mime skills. Daniels on the other
hand wasn't interested at all. Having once demanded his money back
on seeing 2001 - A Space Odyssey, it was clear that he had never
been attracted by the world of sci-fi (though he once made a
sputnik out of a table tennis ball painted silver - at the age of
ten). He refused the interview, not wishing to waste Lucas's time,
or indeed his own.
Coerced by his agent, Daniels did meet the director. But it was in
fact a conceptual painting by Ralph McQuarrie hanging behind the
director that actually gained Daniels interest. Eventually, having
read the incomprehensible script but liking the golden robot, he
asked if he could play the role. The next day he was covered in
plaster as the first step in creating the now globally recognised
character. Six months later the costume was almost ready and
filming began. He has been involved ever since.
Although the Star Wars saga has formed a major part of Daniels'
career, he has interspersed those movies with a variety of
television and stage appearances. These range from situation
comedies, such as Square Deal and Three Up Two Down, to more serious
dramas, such as Prime Suspect and Priestly's Dangerous Corner.
Daniels also works as a presenter/producer of trade events and
conferences. A surprising result of his being locked in a gold
suit on set, surrounded by effect technicians, was his developing
interest in special effects. Now he has developed a secondary
career in the exhibition industry and has worked as a
producer/creative designer on The Westminster Experience, The
Guinness Taste Sensation, Singapore's Volcanoland. Bahrain's
Magic Island, Dubai's Encounter Zone and The London Dungeon.
You can read and learn a lot more about Mr. Daniel's on his web
page:

TIPS_WHEN_BOOKING_YOUR_HOTEL_ROOM:
* Book early! Don't wait until the last minute. Even if you're
not sure you will be coming, book a hotel room. You can cancel
the room a week in advance with no penalty. Ask the operator
the exact details on cancellation date and policies.
* Know the dates you plan to arrive and depart. Remember check
in is 4pm. So if you are arriving at 2am, you are really
arriving the day before.
* Have your credit card ready, especially if you are going to
need a late check in. (like at 2am).
* Are you going to want a smoking or non-smoking room?
* Clearly state you are attending "Toronto Trek" up front so the
operator knows to give you the convention rates.
* The best phone number to call is the 416-675-1500 area code
number as that is the Regal Hotel in Toronto. The 800 number
is a call centre for the Regal chain of Hotels.
* Have a piece of paper and a pen ready, note the operator's
name, the time you called and confirmation number.
* Call back a week later to ensure your confirmation is in the
system. Just tell them you want to check the dates you booked.
If you're not in the system, book again, but sent us
an e-mail letting us know who the operator was, the time and
date you called the first time.
* If you are still having problems with your reservation
disappearing, let us know and we will bring it up with the
hotel.
Reminder: Booking your hotel room under the convention's
name counts towards our room block. The larger the room
block, the larger the discount we receive on the convention
space rental. We pass these savings on to you by keeping
membership costs down.
* Please note that the hotel does not HONOUR the convention rate
if you booking via their web page. If you've booked your
room via the web page you should contact the hotel and
don't forget to mention you are attending Toronto Trek.
