The Sheraton Tara Hotel & Resort

The Sheraton Tara Hotel & Resort is conveniently located less than 30
minutes from Boston's Logan Airport on the scenic Massachusetts North
Shore, and offers affordable luxury in a spectacular, yet intimate,
resort setting. The hotel is also located just minutes from Salem
(Arkham), Marblehead (Kingsport), and Gloucester (Innsmouth),
Massachusetts.

A weekend at the NecronomiCON can be easily combined with a family
vacation, as the hotel offers many features not ordinarily found
elsewhere. On the premises are an 18-hole golf course (home of the
LPGA Boston Five Classic), 8 tennis courts (including four clay), an
Olympic size indoor swimming pool, an outdoor swimming pool,
volleyball courts, softball field, and jogging trails. Also featured
is The Tara Club, a total health and fitness center including
cardiovascular equipment, aerobics, racquetball, sauna, and steam
rooms.

The Sheraton Tara also features 367 guest rooms, a chandeliered grand
ballroom, as well as 2 restaurants, a pub, and a lounge.

                    Some Questions and Answers About
              NecronomiCON: The Cthulhu Mythos Convention

What panels and other programming are planned for NecronomiCON?

The theme of the convention is "celebrating H.P. Lovecraft and the
Cthulhu Mythos in all its forms". This will be reflected in the
programming which will deal with the literary, artistic, television
and film-related, scholarly, and role-playing game aspects of the
Mythos, as well as on Lovecraft and others who have been influenced by
him. Some topics being considered are: "What Is the Cthulhu Mythos?"
"Welcome to Arkham Country," "The Clark Ashton Smythos," "Minorities
and Lovecraft," "Drawing the Indescribable," and "Writing for 'Call of
Cthulhu'."
A program schedule is usually not established until 3 or 4 months
before a convention and not finalized until a month before. If you
would like more detailed information on programming, you should write
again (including a self-addressed, stamped envelope) in June 1993.

Who will be the program participants at the convention?

We have invited over 70 people to participate in NecronomiCON's
program. Among those planning to attend are: Douglas A. Anderson,
Steve Behrends, Rusty Burke, Peter Cannon, Don D'Ammassa, Stefan
Dziemianowicz, Jason Eckhardt, Kenneth W. Faig, Jr., Sam Gafford,
Keith Herber (Chaosium), Franklin Hummel, Ron Johnson, S. T. Joshi, J.
Todd Kingrea (Chaosium), Robert H. Knox, M. Eileen McNamara, Marc A.
Michaud, Robert Murch (Call of Cthulhu miniatures sculptor), Will
Murray, Robert M. Price, Kevin Ross, Joan C. Stanley, John Tynes
(Pagan Publishing). We expect many others -- authors, artists,
scholars, and gamers -- to take part including, of course, our Guests
of Honor, Robert Bloch and Gahan Wilson. More information should be
available on participants in the convention's next Progress Report.

Does NecronomiCON have supporting (i.e., non-attending) memberships?

There are no supporting memberships. However for those interested in
obtaining a copy of the NecronomiCON program/souvenir book without
attending, a limited number of copies will be available for purchase
by mail after the convention. Please write again (including a self-
addressed, stamped envelope) in September 1993 for further
information.

Is the NecronomiCON hotel handicapped-accessible?

Yes, the Sheraton Tara Hotel, including its conference area, is
handicapped-accessible. If you need to make specific arrangements
with regards to guest room accessibility, you should contact the
Sheraton Tara Hotel (1-508-777-2500).

Isn't there a convention named Necronomicon held in Florida?

Yes, there is. This other Necronomicon is a general-interest science
fiction convention with no particular focus on Lovecraft or the
Cthulhu Mythos. Both conventions have been in contact with each other
and have established a good relationship. While some may think two
conventions with the same name might cause confusion, we feel this can
be used to both our advantages by publicizing each other's event. So,
if you would like more information about the Necronomicon held in
Tampa, Florida, in October of each year, write to: Stone Hill Science
Fiction Association, P.O. Box 2076, Riverview, FL 33569. And please
mention you learned of them from the "other" NecronomiCON!
