HAPPY NEW YEAR
--------------
GUEST UPDATE:
------------
The events of Sept 11, 2001 meant TT got off to a slow start when
approaching actor's agents. We normally start talking to the agents
September/October for the following year. Given the events, the
idea of travelling wasn't high on actor's agendas. Things have
returned to a somewhat more normaly state, but it means TT is a
bit behind on signing and announcing guests this year.
We are working hard to bring in a big name guest and events last
week have firmed up some of our options.
As soon as we receive a signed contract we will announce them on
the tcon-news mailing list.
UPCOMING DATES

TT NEEDS YOU:
------------
_ART_CONTEST_
We are looking for submissions for the T-Shirt and Crew Pin. You
don't even have to be an artist to take part - our Art Department
can take any ideas, rough or fine, and prepare the final art. The
following are guidelines to help you get started.
SALES T-SHIRT
The design should fit within an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper (vertical
or horizontal). It must be one-colour "line art", avoid any
shading or half-tones. Gradations 'can' be used but the lines
must be clean and sharp. Avoid thin lines and small detail as
they might get lost due to being printed onto cloth. Also, avoid
copyrighted material such as Starfleet emblems, etc.
CREW PIN
The design can be any shape, but must fit within a one inch
square area. It shouldn't be too complex or detailed and avoid
thin lines. Use a maximum of two 'spot' colours, meaning they
can be any 'stand-alone' colours such as Light Blue, Medium Blue,
Black, Dark Red, Yellow, etc., but cannot be mixed to create a
third, and they cannot touch. Each colour must sit within its
own area which is stamped-in to your choice of Silver or Gold
metal. Note, not all stamped-in areas have to be filled with
colour.
Check out our web page in the Art Contest to look at some of the
previous year's winning designs.
Submissions must be received by February 15, 2002.
Full credit will be given to each artist. Artwork does not need
to be finalized by this date, just in a state for judging. We
will accept a design concept (stick figures welcome). Finalist
will be selected Febrary 17, 2002.
To enter, E-mail us either a JPG or GIF to tcon@icomm.ca, Fax (e-mail
us for phone number), or send it to our postal address:
Toronto Trek Art Contest
P.O. Box 7097, Station A
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
M5W 1X7
Each winner receives a membership for two and final copy of their
creation.
All submissions become property of Toronto Trek. We reserve the
right to make any necessary alterations for the purposes of
reproduction.
_PROGRAMMING_
Our programming department has started planning the activities
for this year's convention. If you have a panel suggestion
drop us an e-mail at tcon@icomm.ca
We are also accepting submissions for any groups who want to do
a Play or Murder Mystery at the convention. Submissions dead-
line are February 28, 2002.

TIPS_WHEN_BOOKING_YOUR_HOTEL_ROOM:
* Book early! Don't wait until the last minute. Even if you're
not sure you will be coming, book a hotel room. You can cancel
the room a week in advance with no penality. Ask the operator
the exact details on cancellation date and policies.
* Know the dates you plan to arrive and depart. Remember check
in is 4pm. So if you are arriving at 2am you are really
arriving the day before.
* Have your credit card ready, especially if you are going to
need a late check in. (like at 2am).
* Are you going to want a smoking or non-smoking room.
* Clearly state you are attending "Toronto Trek" up front so the
operator knows to give you the convention rates.
* The best phone number to call is the 416-675-1500 area code
number as that is the Regal Hotel in Toronto. The 800 number
is a call center for the Regal chain of Hotels.
* Have a piece of paper and a pen ready, note the operator's
name, the time you called and confirmation number.
* Call back a week later to ensure your confirmation is in the
system. Just tell them you want to check the dates you booked.
If you're not in the system... Then book again. But sent us
an e-mail letting us know who the operator was, the time and
date you called the first time.
* If you are still having problems, with your reservation
disappearing, let us know and we will bring it up with the
hotel.
A reminder by booking your hotel room under the convention's
name counts towards our room block. The larger the room
block, the larger the discount we receive on the convention
space rental. We pass these savings on to you by keeping
membership costs down.
