Another black teen teen charged with the brutal beating of a man simply because they were bored and looking for something to do pleaded guilty today in Hamilton County Juvenile Court. Tyree Mizell, 13, admitted to one count of felonious assault in exchange for juvenile prosecutors dropping the aggravated riot charge and a serious youthful offender stipulation that would have sentenced him under a blend of juvenile and adult guidelines, court officials said. He is the latest of the six teens originally arrested in the attack to plead out. Last week, Daquan Cain, Lamont Champion and Antonio Hendrix, all 14, admitted to the same charge under the same conditions. When they are sentenced later this month, Judge Tracie Hunter could place them on probation or order them incarcerated from a minimum of one year or until they turn 21. Two other teens are expected to go before Hunter soon and either plead out or ask for a trial. Michael E. James, 15, is scheduled to appear April 1 and Terrell Mizzell, 13, goes in April 22. Hunter barred an Enquirer reporter from the proceedings again today because the newspaper continues print the teens' names. In the meantime, all the teens remain on house arrest and attend North College Hill schools. That includes Tyree Mizzell, even after he was arrested and charged Feb. 27 with assault. He allegedly punched another student he had been bullying for about three weeks at North College Hill Junior School at 3:10 p.m. Feb. 26, according to North College Hill police. Mizzell is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on that case April 8. The youth all were charged with felonious assault and aggravated riot in the Aug. 11 attack on Pat Mahaney, 45, in North College Hill. The boys' families and lawyers have said they will not give interviews. The case drew national attention to North College Hill, a working class, western Hamilton County suburb of about 10,000 residents. Mahaney was walking home from the store with a six-pack of beer on a Saturday night, looking forward to watching a ball game on television, when the six teenagers jumped him from behind and brutally beat him, police have said. The boys told investigators they attacked Mahaney because they were bored and looking for something to do, a police report shows. Police say the boys beat the unemployed factory worker so badly, he was hospitalized for four days. He suffered so many internal injuries doctors had to insert a tube down his throat to remove all the blood from his stomach. Mahaney did not have health insurance. Outrage set in once details of the incident became public. In the weeks following the attack, fundraisers were held for Mahaney and dueling rallies took place. Some reached out to at-risk youth. One was organized by a white supremacist group convinced Mahaney was targeted by the teens because he is white and they are black. Police officials repeatedly have said the attack was not a hate crime. Mahaney has only given one media interview about his ordeal. In August he told The Enquirer he was stunned by how young his alleged attackers were. I didnt think kids could do something like this, he said at the time. They should be punished. http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20130325/NEWS0107/303250114/ --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: news@netfront.net ---

Street robberies are a problem around the U.C. campus, but usually it's at night between 10 pm and 2 am. Often the victim is walking home from a bar. A robbery Monday was unusual. It happened at around 4:30 in the afternoon. Local 12's Deborah Dixon tells us, there is something else... the robbers are girls. The U.C. student was walking westbound on Lyon Street at 4:30 in the afternoon when three teenaged girls, 14 to 16 years old, punched her in the face and took her cell phone. Captain Paul Nudigate, Cincinnati Police: "For it to be three young females is outside the norm of what we experience." The victim said all three girls were wearing khaki pants ... sort of like a school uniform? "Something we're looking into to see if local CPS students could be involved, HUGHES? That would be the closest one." There were five police cars outside Hughes High School when it let out today and thats just the beginning. There is extra money for beefed up police patrols that will be really noticeable when students move in next year. Police plan to be at the new residential retail complex U-Square at the Loop as they unpack, talking to parents and students about urban living. Sgt. Jason Voelkerding, Cincinnati Police: "Now, living on their own, need to think about things, like not leaving door unlocked with purse inside, leaving house, running to library, walking home from a bar at two in the morning." "Other security measures include more lights, like these on Rose Street. There are seven of them. It makes it hard for bad people to hide in the shadows at night." 86 more lights are going up in hot spots around campus. Crime cameras are going in, too. Some students seem to get it. Clayton Theys, Student: "I would say walk in groups, don't put on headphones, don't be looking at a cell phone all the time, look at what's around you." Students are on cell phones, pretty much everywhere you look. Monday's victim was punched in the face before her 300 dollar phone was snatched. To street robbers, being on a cell phone simply advertises, "I have something worth taking". Police believe education does work. Emphasis on burglaries and thefts from autos reduced those crimes by 22-percent. The Wheel of Justice is offering a thousand dollars for information on the three girl robbers in khakis. http://www.local12.com/news/local/story/Teen-Girls-Rob-U-C-Student/-JY5JTRHykW7Y0JI2ryutA.cspx --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: news@netfront.net ---
