HEADLINE: FOLDERBOLT PRO Incompatible with Sys 8.

FolderBoltPro, which bills itself as, the industry standard for system
security, disables the desktop in Sys8.0 when installed. There is no notice
of this incompatibility with the package, nor do the resellers inform
buyers. The incompatibility on the $99.95 package (the discount price) was
discovered, however by Citadel, its current distributor (they bought out
Kent Marsh). They even offer a partial fix on their website (www.
citadel.com). But the fix is apparently not completely compatible with Sys
8.1.

Users who install FolderBolt can be spectacularly alarmed by the symptoms
which incapacitate the Apple desktop, much as if impregnable security has
been slammed down upon the machine and its files. This may terrify users
who realized that they have lost access to their Apple Menu, Extension
Manager and Control Panels - among other utilities. However, a reboot with
extensions off may allow sufficient control to be restored for the user to
trash the FolderBolt Preference and Control Panel File. A Clean Reload of
OS 8.0 or 8.1 is recommended.

A discussion of this problem with Trish, a cool techie at Citadel left
their responsibility to notify resellers rather ... unclear. In fact, when
aksed why Citadel had failed to do such notification, Trish appeared
startled at the suggestion. Apparently Citadel feels this is a Buyer
Beware situation, even though they are aware of the problem. And of
course, the buyer is farther alarmed when upon calling the phone number in
the Kent Marsh manual, he finds it to be disconnected. Smart buyers would
do well to avoid Citadel and Kent Marsh products until this customer
service policy is rethought.
