I have one in Access for a small shop with an *organized* owner.
It lets you find the name of the person who came in sometime last week and
you think he bought a widget but you can't remember his name or find his
check and he wanted information on the boat trip, and you forget to check
the "notify" field.
Email for more details. (Or to find out why you should be organized.)

I am a big believer in a program called ScubaProphet. I used to
sell it to shops in the late 80s and 90s but don't anymore. It
is a menu driven DOS program that is just about the most
powerful that I have seen in the diving industry. It really
keeps track of customers, their buying habits, what they have
and haven't purchased and whatever discounts that you have
decided to give them is already figured out at the register.
Plus it does all the other things that a dive shop program
should do ... keep track of rental inventory, service
department, daily sales, accounting (way too powerful for me!),
boat schedule, class schedule, etc.

They used to charge close to $4000 but it came with traveling
schools and lots of free phone support. However, they don't do
all that anymore so the program can be bargained for. I think
the guy that is selling it now is asking about $1000 or less.
Then you pay for any training or support by the hour. However,
if you take a little while to play with the program, you can get
started running the shop on day one. I still use it to run my
business and since I got the 5.0 upgrade, it works just fine. (I
run it under WIN98).

Of course, there are other software packages out there as well.
MASC MAN is one, however I have never been a fan of any program
that will not let you use manufacturers' part numbers for your
inventory.

Good hunting!

Just my $.02
