I am having some trouble updating my video driver in Linux (Red Hat). I
found that I was supposed to download xf41sav.tgz so I have done so. Then I
tried to follow the instructions at http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html
I copied the file from the zipped archive to
/user/X11/R6/lib/modules/driver/savage_drv.o and overwrote the existing file
of the same name. then when I rebooted I was forced to log on in text mode.
then the screen would flash for a while then come up with an error message
about X not working properly and that it would be deactivated for 5 min.
I was never able to resolve the issue so I reinstalled Linux. Now I am stuck
with my original problem which is an 'unsteady' display... If someone could
point out a tutorial or something for new folks like me I would really
appreciate it. Then I can continue trying to install and mess around with
other things without a flickering screen...
