I have had similar problems - and was wondering if anyone could chime in to help. I have a Windows 2000 Workstation box and a Linux box. Going through a hub. I can ping both machines from each other. I can actually see the workgroup of the Linux box in the Windows explorer under 'entire network', but when I click on it I get a message that 'The network path was not found'. I believe I took the defaults on Linux setup and the firewall is 'medium'. Is this my problem? How do I change it? Note: I am able to hit the linux box from the Windows box with an http browser in order to access apache served pages, using a non-standard http port. I have followed about every tutoial on Samba (linuxnewbie, two books, other hints) and have done the following: Made sure that there is a user on the linux box with the exact same name/password as on the Windows box. Made sure there is a guest user acount and associated group Made sure that the share is owned by this group Made sure that the common user name between the systems has access to the share by virtue of it being defined in the same group (smbgroup) that owns the share directory. Turned encrypted passwords on on the Linux side to match what Windows will want to send. I've made sure the 'hosts allow' is correct I've made sure it is writable, etc. I simply can't even connect to the Linux box from the windows box at all. Help! TIA, Tad
