Re: running X remotely via SSH

One bug worth noting, Mandrake 7.* appears to stop the XAUTHORITY
enviromental variable. I managed to get ssh-x11 working by turning on
X11 in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config, commenting out all the lines in
/etc/profiles.d/xhost.*, changeing my shell to tcsh, then using
Secure-CRT to login. The Mindspring JavaSSh is also supposed to work,
but I haven tested it.

If you use BASH as your shell it clobbers the XAUTHORITY variable and
nothing will run. Fun to debug. sshd puts a cookie file in /tmp and
set the XAUTHORITY variable to point to it. If X11 isn't working, try
setting this manually.

If anyone knows how to preserve XAUTHORITY under bash, I'd love to find
out how, although I do prefer tcsh myself.

Good Luck.

Kevin
