I have the same card and distro - and a whole bunch of grey hair.
XFree86 3.3.6 is the go. It has (limited) support for the Trio 3D card.
Get it and install it, along with the latest SVGA driver.
XF86Config is a good start for basic settings, but you'll need to manually
adjust the XF86Config file.
This pesky card is very fussy about dot clock settings.
Read the document available under /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/README.S3V
Personally I edit the XF86Config file with vi while still in the shell, since
I can't rely that the X server will startup.
Oh and one final tip - when installing Red Hat 6.0 make sure you set it to boot
into the shell, not directly into the GUI . Otherwise you'll be truly
stuffed...

Have fun.
Stuart.

PS. Beware of VMWare. Just installed it today and my X display completly died.
Had to reset my XF86Config settings from scratch. Now only my root account will
display X on my monitor. My other user accounts still seem to be set in an
invalid mode (ie the monitor locks out), although the X server still runs OK.
I know for sure they are using the same config file. Very weird.
Clues anyone?
