I am assuming you mean floppies right?? If not read on anyway, I've given some pointers on hard drives too. Try this: mount /dev/fd0 -t msdos /mnt/floppy This assumnes that you have either module or kernel support for the "msdos" (short file names) file system, which is pretty standard on RedHat these days. You must also have a mount point /mnt/floppy which should have been created for you during install. If you want long file names, replace "msdos" with "vfat". If on the other hand you want to access your Win9x partitions (hard drives) from linux the procedure is pretty much the same but you'll need to create a mount point like this: mkdir /mnt/windows then type: mount /dev/hda1 -t vfat /mnt/windows /dev/hda1 is the first parition on the Primary master hard-drive which is usually where windows is, and the "vfat" is long-file name (FAT32) support which should come standard with RedHat 6.1 (ie, no need to compile kernels and other messy stuff). BTW, the general rule for /dev/hd?? works like this: /dev/hda = Primary Master /dev/hdb = Primary Slave /dev/hdc = Secondary Master /dev/hdd = Secondary Slave The numbers after the /dev/hd?[0-9] indicate the partition number (if you were working in Solaris these are called "slices"). You will need to know each partition that you intend on mounting, but if there is only one windows partition on the disk, it will always be 1. Things get a little messy with logical drives but if you need help, e-mail me :-) Cheers, James On Sun, 2 Apr 2000 10:03:16 +1000, "Tom" <hammerheads@optusnet.com.au> did enlighten us all with: >hi there >can i use disks from windoze to my linux box? >if yes, how do i do it? >i am using rh6.1 >thanx in advance >tom
