Problems with INN1.4 and Netscape 4.5

I am having a problem running a local news server and using Netscape 4.5
as my newsreader.

The problem is that when I post messages or replies, Netscape reports
that there was an error and to contact the systems administrator. As a
result the message does not disappear from the screen, and tends to
imply that the news message was not posted to the news server. If I
check that outgoing file, and the news server files, I find that the
message was actually posted.

The up shot is that, after I post the message and Netscape reports the
error, I have to close the message window manually, and Netscape asks if
I want to save the unsent message to the Drafts folder. This can get
quite annoying.

I suspect that the error is as a result of the version of Netscape vs
in.nnrpd that is spawned by inn for incoming news articles from news
clients. The trace of nnrpd to syslog reports an error when netscape
request that nnrpd LIST EXTENSIONS.

If anybody can pprovide assistance as to how to fix this problem please
let me know.

I am runnig Slackware 3.3 with Kernel 2.0.35 and INN 1.4 Mar-93. I have
tried updating to the lastest version of INN from sunsite (metalab), and
this did not solve the problem. I also use Suck
3.9.3 to gather the news from my ISP to my local news server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am at a loss to find a
solution and, have not found a later version of INN that seems to fix
the problem. TIA
