maybe a bad ideafirst free some partitions on your hd at least 2 one for root
one for swap
  then you can install linux on extfs2 filesystem with fdisk (the one of linux)
and keep your win on my provider no ftp is possible under linux
then it maybe a good idea to have lilo (makes you able to boot dos win or linux)
