I wish I could remember where I found it...I read the solution to your problem
on a website I found in an altavista search for "quake linux".  It might have
been on the linuxquake site.  Good luck!   I haven't even been able to get
quake to run on mine yet.  I keep getting segmentation faults.  :-(
