I am still trying to install the XServer for my voodoo3 - card. First
I downloaded the 40Mb XServer - Package from the linux.3dfx.com -
site. But this didn't work and so I tried to install only the SVGA -
Server (---> XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4.i386.rpm <---) and the setup (--->
XFree86-XF86Setup-3.3.5-4.i386.rpm <---) from the linux.3dfx.com -
site.

But this didn't work, either. This time I get an error that looks like
this :
rpm -Uhv XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4.i386.rpm (that is me)

failed dependencies:
	libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4
	libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4
	libdl.so.2(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4
	libdl.so.2(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4
	libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4
	libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.1) is needed by XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4

that's it. Of course the setup wont't work either, if this doesn't
work.
I think, I need this libaries (libc2.0, libc2.1). I tried to download
it from rufus.org but it always failed.
Maybe there is another place to download it, please tell me. And maybe
there is someone who could tell me what to do, how to install these
libaries or what I still can try to get the Xserver working...

I am using
                - Suse - Linux 6.1
                - a compiled kernel 2.2.16 (yes, it works)

thx

I had similar Problems installing my Voodoo3 with SuSE 6.2 ! But I
didn't solve them.
Try using SuSE 6.4 if you can. Yast2 installs the accelerated X-Server
for the Voodoo3 automatic ! And it works (UnrealTournament etc.) !

Good luck,
Roland

The RPM was packaged for Redhat which have different library names
then SuSE. You will have to use the nodeps option, ie.:

	rpm -Uvh --nodeps foobar.rpm

A better idea is to download the packages from the SuSE site. They
have the X server that you need.

Do the following instead:

        rpm -Uhv --nodeps XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-4.i386.rpm

        rpm -Uhv --nodeps XFree86-XF86Setup-3.3.5-4.i386.rpm

The --nodeps option will cause RPM to ignore any dependency issues it
finds. Because you're not running a Linux distro which installs itself
by RPM, the RPM database on your computer doesn't know the fact that
you've actually already got glibc and such.

Hope that helps,
