If cars had advanced at the same rate as Micr0$oft technology, they'd be
flying by now.
But who wants a car that crashes 8 times a day?

I've seen these types of projects before, they look like a great idea but the installed base that X11 already has is too powerful to overcome, so projects like this one seem to come and go. (would anyone actually target 'Y' when targeting 'Y' means X11 users can't use the software? what about the people using X-Terminals? ) Don't misunderstand me, I do think a better X would be nice, something with the toolkits residing on the server, something that makes everything look cohesive, with decent font control, etc.. I don't plan on getting my hopes up just yet, though. Maybe if an expert comes up with a way to embed gtk IN an X11 server, with a stub library or something that wraps the gtk functions <-> this specialized X11 server so that gtk applications "think" they're talking to a regular X11 server, making it possible to run the same exact application in both 'X' and 'X-y' or something.. I don't know, I'm not a gtk OR X11 programmer, I just see too many obstacles in the area of "installed base" to overcome. Jamie

Funny, that's what everyone says about MS on the desktop. Guess we should just give up on enabling desktop features on Linux, eh?
