I was wondering if I could run KDE session and Gnome session at the same time? There are some features in KDE that I like and the same also apply to Gnome. Alimin

Tools that use the Gtk-widget will remain using the Gtk-widget, and the same goes for Qt-tools. It is perfectly possible (as you probably have figured out) to run Gnome-apps in KDE or vice versa, as long as you have the appropriate libraries installed. -- SwifT |- LUG : http://www.lugwv.be |- PGP Key-# : 0xCDBA2FDB `- "Happy GNU/Linux-user :)"

You can run multiple X-sessions on your pc, but each X-session needs to bind itself to a virtual console. When you boot into graphical mode, you (probably) are working on console tty7 ([Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F7]). If you go to tty2 ([Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F2]), login (as a user) and type ~$ startx -- :1 then another X-session will be started, but now on tty8 ([Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F8]). Go ahead, try it. You can change the number (:0, :1, :2, ..., :n) and for every new number (that is not previously taken) another X-session is started on tty# with # beging a free number. So if you (per default) run KDE, do the following: - Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 - Log in - Edit $HOME/.xinitrc so it reads exec gnome-session - Type "startx -- :1" You can now switch between KDE and GNOME using Ctrl+Alt+F7 Ctrl+Alt+F8 -- SwifT |- LUG : http://www.lugwv.be |- PGP Key-# : 0xCDBA2FDB `- "Happy GNU/Linux-user :)"
