Hello fellow linux users.

I have just set up a server to connect to the internet for the machines on
my LAN.
I have a problem with the ppp connection though.
It sends data to modem because the RX and TX lights come up on the modem but
after that it does not do anything.
I have done the following things to try to get it to work:
1) Reinstall RedHat Linux
2) Try 2 different ports ( same thing happens)
3) Tried 2 different modems ( same thing happens)
4)set up the connection 5000000000000000000 times

Please try and help.
Thanks so much, Mark

ps: I have had a modem connect to the internet successfully on that machine.
I run redhat linux 6.1

Well..it's hard to help without more information.

what program are you using to connect?

have you tried to connect completely by hand using minicom as per
the PPP HOWTO?

What is coming up in your /var/log/messages file?

First thing to do is to go through the PPP HOWTO and connect by hand.

If that doesn't work, then post saying what you did, how far you got,
and add relevant stuff from /var/log/messages.

IF it does work, then you know it's the program you are using for PPP,
or your authentication, so start looking at those.

MOre info dammit!

We are not looking over your shoulder, we don't know what you
are doing what you see.

So give a step by step list of what you did, and what it did. Error
messages. Log messages.

The more info, the better chance you have of getting help.
