I don't know where it originated but there is a town in Nova Scotia called Pugwash. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Andrew Hoogerwerf 890554@dragon.acadiau.ca 196 Skyway apt 10 542-5339

There used to be a series of conferences involving scientists, writers, other academics, etc., trying to work for world peace. They were called the Pugwash Conferences, because the first (I think) was held in Pugwash (Nova Scotia). My memory is pretty hazy on this, as you can see. This was in the 60's. I presume this newsgroup was created for communication about this conference; that's why it's in alt.ORG . Evidently I'm the only person around old enough to remember this stuff :=( Does anyone have more recent information? --Mitch -- Mitchell Wand College of Computer Science, Northeastern University 360 Huntington Avenue #161CN, Boston, MA 02115 Phone: (617) 437 2072 Internet: wand@flora.ccs.northeastern.edu Fax: (617) 437 5121

Ah! All becomes crystal...
I thought it was going to be a group celebrating the now sadly lost
Captain Pugwash animated series that used to run here in the UK many many
years ago...
Rumour has it that it was banned when someone finally spotted that two of
the main characters were called master-bates and seamen staines... (read it
out loud if you don't get it...!)
I guess nothing to do with this then...?
:-))
Dave
(Obviosuly these are my opinions - who else would have 'em?!)
