Hey Andrew, why not just post to the relevant group? like aus.org.scouting?
Not having a go at you, but it doesn't seem very relevant to the USA and UK.

Jon the reason i post to an array of groups is because scouts from all over
the world are interested in seeing what scouts in other parts of the world
are doing. So yes i beleive it is relevent to post items like this to
international newsgroups.

That *isn't* the way newsgroups work.

You post to groups that are relevant to the subject matter only.

This is only one scouters opinion, but I enjoy seeing what scouts from many
parts of the world are doing. Interesting site, by the way.

So do several of us no doubt but if every Scout Group, District, Area,
County etc. with a web site started cross posting to every Scouting news
group we would all be inundated with adverts. The best thing is to join
a web ring and those who are interested in seeing what is happening
elsewhere can follow the links through that or via the web site links.

I am not suggesting that we shouldn't take an interest in the World of
Scouting but the impact of everyone cross posting adverts would not be
contributing much to the general discussion. Apart from that if you
really must advertise then add it to your signature and you can post an
on topic contribution whilst advertising the web site at the same time!

We've wasted 100 times the bandwidth bitching about a simple 8 line message
when all we really had to do was read it, say "that's nice", and go on.

Anal Retentive? I'd say so.

Thank you for your constructive contribution. I felt that it was worth
explaining the rationale so that it was clear why it was better not to
post adverts, perhaps you didn't need it explained. Everyone else may
have guessed why it is for the best but some may have liked to have it
explained.

It's not just "one scouters opinion" as you put it. It is general
netiquitte, which there are many guides to on the web. Otherwise there is no
point having seperate newsgroups for different countries. You may aswell
have "rec.scouting.everything" for everyone to use. I'd suggest that a web
ring or some such like someone else suggested is the best way to introduce
the site to international people. Also make sure it is listed on the Scouts
Australia links page, which will further help people be aware of it.
