Hi Guys!

I made a "WebExplorer Enhanced Site" logo for all of us who maintain a web site.

I placed it on hobbes (incoming directory).

The name for the file is: WebEx_Enhanced_Sites.GIF

You can also see it on my home page. The address is in the signature.

They've also got the <caption> tag for tables, which probably won't
disturb other browsers. See the What's new page of the WebEx home
page for more info. (The WebEx home page is
http://www.raleigh.ibm.com/WebExplorer. I can't get a URL for the
relevant section because I can't get through to the site right now...)

I appreciate your fine efforts. But, the logo, like its equivalent, flies in the face
of open standards and the rapid development of international communication.

Of course. I just made it because, first, I was bored this afternoon ;-), and second,
because I wanted to include a logo in my home page. Once finished, I thought
maybe somebody would like to have a logo like this. It's just for fun.

Cheers,

Ignacio

I'm sure you went throught a lot of work to make the graphic but personally I
think
all this "enhanced for this browser, enchanced for that browser" is self
defeating.
If I had a Web site of any consequence I'd what it to support as many browsers
as
possible.

Just my opinion.

Hmm, only on the surface. IBM in their infinite wisdom (not used
sarcastically for a change) have chosen to implement their enhancements
in a way which does not interfere with other browsers. Netscape, which
is, what, 80% of all browsers, have NOT chosen to do the same. In fact,
the only enhancement that I am aware of in WebEx is the animation for
the browser icon, which doesn't impede other browsers at all. I intend
to use this fine logo, thank you Ignacio.

Ahhh... not so!! If you made an ascii enhanced for lynx logo that relied on
type being monospaced then it would only look correct on Lynx... This is
a good idea :)

If that's the case, name me one web browser that can't read any "WebExplorer"
specific BODY tag _that causes it to loose information_ ... there aren't any,
because there are no WebEX specific tags except the <annimate> tag. Do you send
letters to webmasters that display the "you must use Netscape 1.1N or later..."
statement to clean up their HTML? I do! Look at all the sites that have the
Netscape 2.0 retrieval button. Talk about commericalism!

I think we are in 100% agreement. It's the problem with "I can do it and you can't"
while claiming to be conforming to an open standard. If a product claims xxxx
"enhanced", they are merely thumbing their nose at the standards committee and
at the user audience as well.

Hi.

What Enhancements does Web Explorer offer (ie. frames, ?) that arn't
part of the regular html spec?

As far as I know, the only enhancement WebEx has that others don't is the
animation. It's not much, but it sure is a pleasure to surf Warped sites and
see my animation change. The other _enhanced_ sites are mostly (imho) a
real pain in the butt.

I write HTML code, and I consider it my goal and responsibility to
adapt to the users and never ask them to adapt to me (unless there is
a very good reason to ask them to). And when I do have to write
non-compatible code, I will still make a seperate version of the web
compatible with lynx which offers as much of the non-compatible
version's information and features as possible.

With one of my HTML documents, I also have a seperate plain text
version for those without Web access or simply prefer ftp.

Well, actually there are two or three. For example, see my OS/2 page
at http://rrnet.com/~ah/os2.html . You'll need to view it with WebExplorer,
and no other browser, in order to get the full effect.

(Hint, all of these "tags" are internal WebEx tags used in the WebMap).

Not to mention the way that WebEx "raises" the buttons which are links
instead of just highlights them with a stupid blue border. My page
(http://www.calweb.com/~morpheus) shows this to great effect.

I discovered that Netscape ignores <u></u> (underline) tags...
And WE interprets them!

However, I don't like idea of creating pages supposed to be viewed with
particular browser. This is against those who view pages !!
*My* homepage (http://crydee.sai.msu.su) carries crossed Netscape sign
and comment "Not enhanced for Net$cape".
