Where were you when the drafts of the petition were being posted and passed around? That was the time to provide substantive feedback. It's all too easy to play Monday-afternoon quarterback. And about the subject line length. You must have forgotten the unbelievable subject line lengths (often underlined no less), that originated from Cosar's site. These totally swamped many news readers, making scans of the subject lines virtually impossible. Though this has not been mentioned often, I've had feedback from several people since the petition was drafted saying that was truly an obnoxious thing "that must go". I consider anything seriously abusive that made it much more difficult for the average reader of Usenet (and not the net.guru who can figure out how to turn off line wraps) to read any newsgroup. I guess you don't. We agree to disagree, I guess. Jon Noring -- Join the INFJ mailing list! Secondly, if they broke software that wasn't meeting Usenet standards, Cosar was doing us all a public service. Thirdly, somebody from Netcom presuming to call *anyone* else to account for net misbehaviour is ludicrous, given how much of it they tolerate from their own users (like Canter & Siegel still using them as a maildrop, or jim and jpdavid in rec.pets.cats right now). Get that beam out of your own eye and *then* get back to us. Finally, *learn what the goddam Followup-To: line is for*. This is utterly irrelevant to rec.arts.books, where I saw it; Argic has only sporadically posted there and not for several weeks now. Even *he* got that one right; you're being a far more obnoxious pest in r.a.b than he ever was.
