Linked to my article asking for info. on Chas. Taylor, I would like to ask whether anyone has the CD mentioned above. I am trying to track down an acoustic illusion used by Prof. Taylor in the course of a lecture in London... Is there such a track on that CD --- of a musical tone which seemingly descends infinitely in pitch? I would be glad to here of anyone who has the CD! Hi Martyn, et al., I have the ASA's Auditory Demonstration CD and I must say that it's great! I believe that the answer to your question is yes, it does contain a demonstration of Shepard's Scale (an M.C. Escher painting for the ear). I've also made a QuickTime movie of Shepard's Scale based upon a delightful book (w/CD-ROM) _Exploring_Mathematics_with_Mathematica_ by Theodore W. Gray and Jerry Glynn, Addison-Wesley, 1991; someday I'll unleash on the net. Also of interest is Malcolm Slaney's HyperCard stack that complements the ASA CD; it's available via anonymous ftp from ftp.apple.com. (The ASA CD may be ordered directly from the ASA, see the last few pages of a JASA for details.)
