Are digital signatures legally valid in the UK (yet). And what about rest of world, esp. EU? -- Humanity will not be happy until the day when the last bureaucrat has been hanged with the guts of the last capitalist. England almost certainly yes, in Scotland probably not
see for example Thus's comments on clause 7 of the Electronic
Communications Bill draft at:
http://www.dispatches.demon.net/pr/1999/pr1999-10-25a.html
you will find similar remarks in several of the other submissions to the
DTI consultation exercise.
The situation will be far more clear after April when the Bill is
expected to receive Royal Assent.

the EU Directive is now agreed, and some EU states already have some
legal framework in place. I think you should consult the locals
carefully before relying upon these laws. You'd probably be far better
off using a signatures explicitly provided for under a contract.

In Spain they are, provided they are certified by some certifying authority. The law was passed last september.

I'd suspect they'd hold water the US if used in conjunction with expert testimony. --Michael Marcin Tustin wrote: > Are digital signatures legally valid in the UK (yet). > And what about rest of world, esp. EU? > -- >

Or written into a contract as a due-dilligence requirement for both
parties, that they properly validate and sign off on one another's
keys.
