Hi there. A new version of the 'AIDA on-line' free diabetes simulator
has been released and is available now @ http://www.2aida.org/online
Called 'AIDA on-line2', this now incorporates glycosylated haemoglobin
(HbA1c) values for the Web-based diabetes simulations. This means
that for each simulation an expected / predicted HbA1c estimate is
provided - based on the assumption that the simulated blood glucose
control might be maintained for a 2-3 month period. As with
everything else with AIDA, the HbA1c model incorporated within 'AIDA
on-line2' is only intended for educational / self-learning /
demonstration purposes. Nevertheless I hope this will be a useful
addition to the facilities offered by 'AIDA on-line'.
'AIDA on-line2' also now includes user definable limits or boundaries
for the diabetes simulations. These can be turned on or off, as
required, and the actual levels can be adjusted to suite personal
preferences. The intention of these limits / bounds is to provide a
target for visitors / users to aim for when trying to improve the
simulated blood glucose profile.
One comment occasionally heard about the old 'AIDA on-line' facility
was that people inexperienced / unused to diabetes - e.g. school
children, students, etc - who wanted to learn more didn't necessarily
have anything to aim for, especially when using 'AIDA on-line' via the
Internet, perhaps without any local guidance. Therefore potentially
these people might not necessarily know what represented an acceptable
blood glucose profile.
Well hopefully such issues have been addressed by the provision of
limits / boundaries and HbA1c values for the simulations - both of
which provide targets that can be used when trying to focus on
improving the simulator's metabolic control.
Other enhancements have also been made to 'AIDA on-line' - including
the tidying up of some of the displays / fonts used - and other
technical changes which may not be so apparent to end users - but that
should facilitate future refinements / developments to the
application.
Anyway, 'AIDA on-line2' is now available for people to use @
http://www.2aida.org/online
Incidentally, please note 'AIDA on-line2' is only being made available
via this URL - the new Web address for 'AIDA on-line'. The old 'AIDA
on-line' Web address, that you may have accessed in the past, is no
longer being maintained / developed - and actually many of the links /
info there are now out-of-date.
Well, that is about all for now. I hope you continue to find what is
on offer at http://www.2aida.org of interest & use. As always
everything at the site is being made available completely without
charge as a non-commercial contribution to continuing diabetes
education.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Eldon Lehmann

Ordinarily we'd not want this kind of spamming in the group but having used Aida it really is a jolly useful educational tool and in this case I have to endorse it. Remember, it is a mathematical simulation and apart from it's ugly DOS look-and-feel it is very helpful.
