To all who have derided my requests that you honor my trademark: For the last three and a half years, I have been breaking the way that the concept that the combination of fenfluramine and phentermine is a respected method for the therapy of craving. Mike Weintraub, I am proud to say, is my friend. His concept that the two tired "diet pills" could be combined so that each neurotransmitter agonist (increaser) could cancel out the side-effects of the other was inspired--to say the least. In March of 1993, having found that the Weintraub could be improved and now could cover other craving disorders, I published my preliminary findings [ Hitzig P. Combined dopamine and serotonin agonists: a synergistic approach to alcoholism and other addictive behaviors. Md Med J 1993; 42:153-156.]. This was the first account that not only obesity but also other addictive cravings were treatable. This research continued. A prospective study reviewed the data I presented at a NIH'sponsored meeting in Palm Beach.[1. Hitzig P. Combined serotonin and dopamine indirect agonists correct alcohol associated craving and alcohol-associated neuroses. J Subst Abuse Treat 1994; 11:489-490} In this journal letter I was able to show that all addicted people lost their addictions and neuroses rapidly. My friend and associate Richard Rothman followed the cours of my first cocaine addicts. [Rothman RB, Gendron T, Hitzig P. Combined use of fenfluramine and phentermine in the treatment of cocaine addiction: a pilot case series. J Subst Abuse Treat 1994; 11:273-275] This eminent research psychiatrist, a full-timer at NIH, showed the effectiveness of this cocaine treatment. Recent work continues to expand FEN/PHEN's therapeutic capability. Further work is going to emerge from many major academic sites. Have I not earned, after three years of intensive, even obsessive work, the right to have my FEN/PHEN trademark honored? FEN/PHEN is more than another treatment; it is also a major paradigm shift. Try to understand it; if you can't, ask for more information. There are many on these newsgroups that I respect, some I regret. Flame if you must, the rest please understand that there is something extraordinary in the FEN/PHEN protocol. Many have said that they want the Internet to be where new concepts will not be smothered. The editors at traditional journals are compelled to publish the mundane. The Internet citizens should demand that unconventional, inexplicable, and even unpopular ideas should be widely disseminated.
