Allan Rock's new regulatory framework for allowing certain patients to have access to medical marijuana is an attempt to save the criminal prohibition of marijuana use from being judicially struck down. The Ontario Court of Appeal in R. v. Parker made it clear to the federal government that medical marijuana must be made available, not just prosecutorally tolerated, for persons suffering conditions that are ameliorated by marijuana. The Canadian government is now acting under the threat of having its marijuana laws repealed by the court; it is liberalizing the law to preserve it, not simply to help patients. Allan Rock is a smug, self-serving hypocrite. He appeared on Open Mike, a Canadian late night talk show, and alluded to his own use of marijuana. "I have never used marijuana" he said, pausing before completing his sentence, "medically". Yet this man, who grinned mischeiviously as he referred to pot smoking and discussed his travels with John Lennon, was the Minister of Justice, the man responsible for the continued criminalization of marijuana and the prosecution of Canadians for possession of marijuana. A generation of boys and girls who enjoyed the safe and peaceable use of marijuana many years ago now occupy the heights of political power. Its too bad that they have turned into tight-assed puritanical neo-cons. MGoldmacher Barrister and Solicitor Hey Allan, sue me for libel!
