This is FYI, in the event that the info about this "Good Times" e-mail virus which was forwarded to me, is accurate and valid. According to forward from mhorn@ccnet.com, hammfam@aola.com, parkersdad@aol.com, Tgreger@aol.com, clover@A.crl.com, as forwarded to HannaClay@aol.com, and then to the members of an aol tv show club, the FCC supposedly released info "Wednesday" (orig forward dated 6/6) as follows [I have snipped and condensed]: The "Good Times" virus, purportedly authored and distributed by an AOL member, infects via e-mail. If you get any e-mail message with its name in the Subject line, DO NOT READ THE MESSAGE, DELETE THE MESSAGE IMMEDIATELY. It reportedly rewrites your hard drive, puts "Stones", "Airwold" and "Michaelangelo" to shame, and NO PROGRAM NEEDS TO BE EXCHANGED FOR A NEW COMPUTER TO BE INFECTED; it can be spread through e-mail systems on the Net. Once infected, either the HD is destroyed, or the processor is placed in an "nth-complexity infinite binary loop - which can severly damage the processor if left running that way too long." Most users would not recognize the tainted message for what it is, and loading the file in the mail-server's buffer causes the virus' mainline program to initialize and execute. It will send copies of itself to everyone whose e-mail address is contained in a receive-mail file or a sent-mail file, if it can find one. "Could you pass this along to your global mailing list as well?" Whether this is actual or not, I have no way of knowing, but I am forwarding the info just in case, to the NG's to which I suscribe. Best Regards, M. Bates queenbts@netzone.com

I received a message a moment ago from someone citing me to the Good Time FAQ page, address below. Sorry for the inconvenience of my post, and for any leaping heartbeats it may have caused. One good thing, the info did prompt me to remember to do a long-postponed backup of my machine, though! Again, my apologies for passing on the info; I truly didn't know it was a hoax. SEE: http://www-mcb.ucdavis.edu/info/virus.html, the 4/95 FAQ re same by Les Jones, lesjones@usit.net; macfaq@aol.com. PLEASE FORWARD THIS CORRECTION TO ANYONE TO WHOM YOY MAY HAVE FORWARDED MY ERRONEOUS POST. Thank you. M. Bates queenbts@netzone.com
