NOTE: This is NOT an automatically and indiscriminately
distributed spam. Rather, the groups to which this advertisement is
being sent were selected because of recent posts within them that showed
what was considered to be a reasonable level of inquiry or discussion
about acupuncture. In the interests of those who do not access the
newsgroups that often, and to allow for the cycling of newsfeed server
caches, this announcement will be resent at approximately weekly
intervals. Therefore, should any of these groups actually be
inappropriate venues for this post, feedback to that effect would be
much appreciated.

HOW and WHY does acupuncture REALLY work? For WHICH ailments
EXACTLY is it generally effective, and which ones generally don't
respond to it? Given a particular physical state of a patient, HOW WELL
can acupuncture be expected to work for that patient's ailment?

Currently, the bulk, if not the entirety, of compiled written
material relating to these questions is comprised of pure speculation,
based upon the mystical explanations of acupuncture. Terms like "Qi",
"Yin and Yang" and "meridians of the body," while acceptable within the
acupuncturist community itself, have no real meaning in the modern
medical community. But what if acupuncture were approached
SCIENTIFICALLY?

In his book, ANATOMICAL ACUPUNCTURE, Doctor Hou-Chi Dung, Ph.D.
in anatomy, tackles these questions and many like them, basing his
observations on his background in the sciences and over 20 years of
personal clinical experience as an acupuncturist. He does not pretend
to find the definitive answers, but rather presents his carefully
documented experiences and lets the readers begin drawing their own
conclusions.

Primary topics in the book range from the roles of anatomy,
physiology and biochemistry in acupuncture to which applications have
been found to have excellent, mixed or poor results. Ailments
documented include fibromyalgia, migraines, arthritis, trigeminal
neuralgia, dysmenorrhea and various other forms of chronic pain, as well
as nicotine addiction, infertility, allergies and tinnitus, among
numerous others.

Ultimately, it is his hope that medical professionals will
consider his ideas worthy of initiating full scientific investigations
into the above questions about acupuncture. Dr. Dung believes that only
when such investigations are carried out by qualified professionals can
acupuncture truly be accepted as a legitimate modality by the medical
community at large.
