I just found the section in the manual where it mentions apple/mac.
The pin outs shows an example for Apple IIc and an example for a Mac.

I discovered I have a Mac modem cable (mini din8 M to db25 M) and it
seems it does not work. The printer just sits there after being
switched on and setting the printer head.
