[snip] > PointCast's "broadcast" and "push" terms are confusing. It isn't spewed out all over the Internet and tuned in like a radio. Data is only sent to clients which request it. Better yet, only updates to the clients' existing content are sent. > > PointCast's "broadcast" refers to the intelligence built into the user's client software and PointCast's servers which eliminates the slow and tedious task of hunting down URLs in a browser. You tell your client what you want and it automatically appears and stays up-to-date on your machine, as if it was tuned into a broadcast. Then my apologies, I did not mean PointCast then...I was probably thinking of one of the other zillion-odd brand names. My apologies to PointCast for any negative connotations. > (The marking people at PointCast are reading this newsgroup and I just called their buzzwords confusing. I'm sure I'll hear about this one tomorrow.) Nah, say it like it is. "Broadcast" does call to mind what I described, but it obviously is *not* what PointCast is... Thanks for the clarification. [The idea is still true....some Push technologies are major bandwidth hogs.] kevin at quosig dot com "I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood."
