Beware also that the charge can last for several days after the monitor
was unplugged.

If it's a throw away item then all the more reason to try and repair it
yourself - 'cos even if you break it doing so you're no worse off. If no
computer dealer will touch it then it's always worth trying a television
repair shop. Usually the smaller the better (i.e. a one-man place) in
these sorts of cases.
