Hi Bart, thanks for your reply. You guys are great in this alt.sys.mac.new_user-help newsgroup. A super boost for the Mac! :-) [cross posted to ch.comp] bart@gte.net (Bart Barton) wrote in alt.sys.mac.newuser-help: >In article <32cb4a38.4074799@news.globalserve.net>, purdy@globalserve.net wrote: >[snipped] >> I've printed off what I have so far but it's so much that I should >> instead find: >> >> 1) a reasonable priced IP in Zurich, Switzerland sympathetic to >> inexperienced Mac users, and ; >> >I'll have to admit I am totally unfamiliar with most exchange rates so >couldn't tell you if listed prices were better/reasonable for a provider in >the Zurich or not but if you'll go to >http://thelist.iworld.com/country/Switzerland.html there are a number of >providers listed with Zurich access numbers. That's a good list to start a search for ISPs in any country and I've printed a copy I'll mail to my sister-in-law in Zurich. The standard easily-read format makes it easy to find what you want and the links to the providers let you feel more confident about your impressions. Reading Swiss newsgroups I found http://webtool.net/provider/ which seems to give you direct access to the front pages of many Swiss ISPs. I've printed web pages from 6-7 of these and will soon send them to Zurich. The Swiss franc and Canadian $ are about equal, or worth about $0.75 US. ISP pricing in Switzerland is indeed much higher than Toronto where PPP connections run $0.00 to $35.00 per month for an individual unlimited time connection (you can expect good service for $25.00). Swiss pricing seems to be where Toronto's was 1-2 years ago. Hmmm... wonder what http://www.thelist.com shows for Toronto ... :-) But the main point is I would be surprised if my sister-in-law will subscribe to a Zurich ISP with their prices as high as they are now. That means I must send her copies of web pages on disk ... but between my PCs, the only way I know how to do that is through trickery. So how could I do it by disk from a PC to a Mac? Doug
