Not exactly true... 1. Excel had been started as a DOS product in early '83 as an update to Muliplan. It was originally called Odyssey. By march '84, however Gates realized Kapoor had the PC market locked with Lotus 123 and Lotus Jazz. Therefore, he directed his lead programmer, to dump Excel/DOS and focus 100% on Excel for the forthcoming Mac/512. Most of what ended up in Excel 1.0 for the Macintosh had been written already for DOS. 2. Word 1.0 for the PC was released on 11/15/83 and sold for $475 with a mouse or $375 without. Word 1.0 for the Macintosh came out in January '85 and was quickly supplanted by word 3.0 for the Mac. Finally Mac users could print more than nine pages. :) HTH -- k -- kai - filesiteguy at yahoo dot com www.perfectreign.com || www.filesite.org "i believe in what i'm doing but what is it i'm doing here?"
