Hi All;
I know that the Mac SE 30 can have up to 128 MBs, but what
configurations can it take? ie n X 30/72 pin SIMMS
(parity/non-parity)???
Also I have a powerbook 1400 running system 7.5.5 and a freind has a
Mac SE 30 8MB RAM/80MB Hard disk. Running system 7.x.
How much memory does the Mac SE 30 need to run system 7.5.5?
And how much more will it need to run as a email/web/print server?

Hmmmmm...according to the Apple database, the max ram for an SE/30 is 32MB. Has 8 slots for ram and can use 256K, 1MB or 4MB, 30 pin ram SIMMS (120ns). The 8 ram slots must be filled in 2 groups of 4. Of course, it may be that the apple info is out of date, given that the SE/30 is such an old model, and it will quite happily accept 8MB and even 16MB modules. I'm running 7.5 on an SE/30 with 8MB, but more is better :-) -- Steve Lamb DSTO, AMRL 506 Lorimer St. Fishermans Bend, VIC, 3207

Has two banks of four slots. Each bank must be filled with similar 30pin simms (both parity and non-parity chips will work - get whatever is cheaper). The banks can be filled with different size simms - this is how you get 20mb (4x4+4x1) > > > Also I have a powerbook 1400 running system 7.5.5 and a freind has a > Mac SE 30 8MB RAM/80MB Hard disk. Will run on 8Mb with about 4mb free, depending on extras. > > > And how much more will it need to run as a email/web/print server? Who knows. The next worthwhile upgrade is to replace 4 of the 1mb simms which likely inhabit the machine at present with 4 x 4mb simms for a total of 20Mb. You should be able to find new 4mb simms for between $20 and $30 (I just got some at $20 each) Cheers, Hugh > > Regards : David. E.
