Need as much info as possible on installing cd drive in Compaq Smartstation. Just bought a Compaq LTE Elite 4/75CXL with a Smartstation and would like to install a cd drive/sound card. What type of cd drive/soundcard should I use? Is there any info on actually installing drive into Smartstation? Thanks in advance. -- Ian Redpath Down to Earth Galleries PO Box 242 Peterborough SA 5422 Phone: 08 8651 2111 Fax: 08 8651 2549 dteg@telstra.easymail.com.au

Any IDE or SCSI CDROM will do. Actually I shouldn't say any SCSI CDROM because I don't know much about SCSI but the SCSI ones that I've installed work fine. As for the sound card, an ISA one of course. Or another option would be to get one of those proprietary combos of a creative labs CDROM and sound card so that the CDROM plugs into the sound card's special connection. It's 40pin but ot's not IDE so be careful if you're buying used CDROMs. Make sure that if you want IDE that it is in fact IDE and not the proprietary interface. Installation: Just pop the lid and you'll need some rails to put on the sides of the CDROM before you slide it it. That's about it.
