Compaq SLT/386: Linux can't see SCSI adapter
#50

I'm the happy owner of this old Compaq portable, running Linux (Slackware
3.1, Linux kernel 2.0.0, mainly because Slackware is easy to install from
floppies). This all works really well (for a 386SX-20 :-)

The SLT is alleged to have SCSI hardware, part of which is embedded on the
motherboard (an NCR or clone 53C408) and part of which is on an optional
bus adapter (which I do have). I have obtained the host adapter IRQ and
I/O port from Compaq support, nice of them to provide this info for such
an old system.

The problem is, the Linux kernel doesn't detect the host adapter. Yes, I
have a SCSI kernel, and yes, I have specified the IRQ and I/O at kernel
load time. I've even read the SCSI HOWTO!

Any suggestions? I'd appreciate information about the SLT's SCSI (the
previous owner never had it working, and now can't find the manuals,
etc.), and ideas from Linux SCSI gurus. I'd just like to be able to
install from CD-ROM!

TIA

Gary
