Crossposting an on topic article to a small number of relevant newsgroups
has been a legitimate, accepted part of Usenet for years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

From RFC1855 - Netiquette Guidelines:

If you feel an article will be of interest to more than one Newsgroup, be
sure to CROSSPOST the article rather than individually post it to those
groups. In general, probably only five-to-six groups will have similar
enough interests to warrant this.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree that the ability to crosspost does get abused. For example,
sometimes people crosspost an article to a large number of groups, most of
which it doesn't belong in. Or somebody deliberately crossposts a flame war
thread into multiple newsgroups just to stir up trouble.

But just because some people abuse crossposting, that doesn't mean that all
crossposting is somehow wrong.

(I notice that some of the flames and 'juvenile postings' in this thread
originated in alt.sys.pc-clone.dell.)
